Abstract (original)

I first learned of SABR* at the 2008 ASTRO meeting in Boston. It was the 50th annual meeting, and excitement was high. This was the Golden Anniversary, and it was a breakout year for stereotactic radiation. SABR was a big departure from current treatment approaches, and it incited deep emotions. Some were very enthusiastic, predicting that stereotactic techniques would eventually be used for most cancers. Others were deeply skeptical, openly worrying that the approach was dangerous and unethical, because the late toxicities would be serious.
