Kunstmatige intelligentie in de oncologie: van hulpmiddel naar teamgenoot

Artificial intelligence (AI) methods can be used as tools in oncology and cancer research. AI methods are being applied across all disciplines in cancer care, including pathology,1 radiology,2 and surgery.3 Examples include image analysis tools that can be used for tumor diagnosis.4 They can also be used for more complex applications, such as the prediction of molecular alterations directly from histological slides, effectively acting as a prescreening tool for genomic biomarkers.5-7 Similarly, there is a growing body of work focused on prognostication with AI based on pathology or radiology images or other clinical data.
