Use of effective but relatively toxic anthracyclines remains one of the most controversial issues in the treatment of early breast cancer (eBC). A recent meta-analysis showed a significantly better invasive disease-free survival (iDFS) and distant disease-free survival after concurrent anthracycline-taxane versus taxane-based chemotherapy in hormone receptor (HR)-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative eBC.1 Recently, Chen et al. demonstrated that patients with node-negative, HR-positive/HER2-negative eBC and high 21-gene recurrence score (RS ≥ 31) benefited from the addition of anthracyclines to adjuvant taxane plus cyclophosphamide (TC) in post hoc analysis of the phase III TAILORx trial (NCT00310180).
