Abstract (original)
Patients with breast cancer require radiation therapy after breast conservation surgery in most clinical situations and following mastectomy in the presence of high-risk features.1 With better survival, improving the survivorship of patients with breast cancer remains an ongoing endeavor. Cardiac-sparing radiation therapy to reduce radiation-induced heart disease is the recommended standard of care for left-sided breast cancer, as there is an established correlation between the mean heart dose (MHD) and the risk of an acute coronary event (ACE).
